Community and participation

The social dimension of Grupo Aranea's projects has been fundamental since the creation of the multidisciplinary team. Grupo Aranea was a pioneer in recognizing the role of citizens in decisions affecting urban design. Among its most notable initiatives are pH–Paisajes Habitados (PH–Inhabited Landscapes), a project that proposed a methodology for studying landscape units and which covered much of the country for a decade; the creation of the Alacant AfterSun association, which works to enhance the value of the city of Alicante through art, urban planning, and the environment; and the Semillas Verdes (Green Seeds) methodology applied in school playgrounds, through which, by means of ecological and participatory design, educational centers become drivers of environmental and social change within the urban fabric. All of this forms part of a long history of projects that integrate community, territory, and sustainability.

This work with the community has given rise to educational landscaping: the art and technique of designing places that are not only beautiful or functional, but also educational. It's an approach in which the landscape teaches, raises awareness, and shapes minds through its creation, maintenance, and enjoyment.
